Padres Look to Add Two Hitting Coaches in 2012. Good Idea?

The article here discusses how the Padres’ G.M. Jed Hoyer is considering filling the Hitting Coach role left vacant by Randy Ready’s dismissal with two people.  Hoyer delves into the intricacies of how he will find the new pair as well as the candidates that him and the F.O. are considering.  Hoyer cites the St. Louis Cardinals as a blueprint because they are the only team in baseball that has two Hitting Coaches, they’ve had a measure of success with the model, and it seems that the Padres will try anything to awaken their anemic bats.

The top two candidates appear to be from within the Padres organization according to the article.  One choice is ex-MLB 3rd Baseman Sean Berry, who also happens to be the Padres’ Minor League hitting coordinator.  The other is former Padres OF Phil Plantier.  Plantier was the Hitting Coach of the Padres’ Single-A affiliate in Lake Elsinore, and he finished the 2011 season as the interim manager of the club.  I personally don’t care who it is.  I just hope the Padres can at least find somebody to get the offense going.
