Heath Bell walked into the visitor’s clubhouse at AT&T Park on Wednesday, and many of his young San Diego Padres teammates figured he was already long gone after the San Francisco Giants claimed him off waivers.
Trevor Hoffman and J.T. Snow have shared many experiences together on the baseball diamond, dating back to the late 1980s when the two were teammates at the University of Arizona. Back then, Hoffman-to-Snow set up a 6-3, put-out combo that helped lead the Wildcats to the 1989 PAC-10 title.
Parrino got the call late Wednesday night after his San Antonio Missions Double-A team lost in Frisco, Texas. He’s heading to Arizona today and will be in uniform when the Padres play the Diamondbacks tomorrow night.
The Tucson Padres may or may not escape last place this season, but there was evidence Wednesday that they are indeed playing in the house of champions.
