Good Weekend for Our Padres

It’s too bad that we were demolished by the Braves on Saturday, but we came out on top after Sunday’s game to win the series. We now have WON our last 2 series. And they were not against some lowly teams, they were against the Atlanta Braves and the Boston Red Sox! Now that is something for the team to be proud of and hopefully the boys can keep that momentum rolling against the Kansas City Royals.

Cory Luebke made his first start of the season yesterday afternoon and looked really good. He only lasted for 5 innings, but he only gave up 1 hit and struck out 6 Bravos. Luebke will be getting a few more opportunities to show his worth to the starting rotation since Aaron Harang will be out till at least the All-Star break. I hope that Luebke is able to steal a spot in the rotation from somebody.

The boys had that 2-out thunder working well for them again on Sunday in the eighth inning. This time they lit up relief pitcher Jonny Venters. We loaded the bases against Venters, but he was able to get 2 outs on us and was one out away from getting out of the inning and holding a Brave lead. Then Jason Bartlett came up with a  clutch hit and Orlando Hudson and Chase Headley followed and did the same. Four runs on the board in the inning and we made the call to Heath Bell to close it out.

Getting those clutch hits have eluded us during most of the season. If we are able to raise our ability to hit with runners in scoring position, we should be able to string together a few wins together. Winning against the Braves and Red Sox is a good start!
