Padres Are Singing in the Rain

This season has been a tough ride, but the Padres were able to out some smiles on the fans faces with the recent series against the Boston Red Sox. The road trip has been a struggle and we suffered through a six game slide in the middle of it. We were swept by the streaking Twins and lost two games to the Rockies. We ended the road trip with two straight wins against the BoSox though.

It was rainy and wet and there were a bunch of rain delays, but the guys pulled it off. Will Venable led off the game with a home run and the team never looked back. The offense benefited from P John Lackey’s wildness in the fourth inning.

The fourth started with a walk, a hit by pitch and a bunt for a base hit. Then we hit a rain delay. Coming back from the delay, Nick Hundley struck out and then the fun began. Venable walked with the bases loaded to drive in the first run. Jason Bartlett came up with the bases juiced and was hit by the pitch to drive in a run. Chase Headley followed and a run came in with a wild pitch and then Headley singled in another run.

The pitching held the Red Sox to one run in seven innings. Clayton Richard pitched five innings and Ernesto Freiri pitched the final two. The game ended short after the rain started coming down, but the Padres left with the victory!
