No clutch hits again leads to another loss

Cincinnati Reds 3 – San Diego Padres 2

W: Edinson Volquez (2-0)
L: Mat Latos (0-1)
S: Francisco Cordero (2)

The San Diego Padres started out the game loading the bases against Volquez with no outs and we were only able to put up 2 runs in the inning. The rest of the game the Padres struggled to get on base and we could not get a hit when it counted. Held to 2 runs for the rest of the game.

One of the best opportunities came in the 8th inning when Alberto Gonzalez started out the inning with a double. Chris Denorfia was then called in to pinch hit and try to bunt the runner over to third base. Denorfia put down a bad bunt and the Reds made a good play to cut down Gonzalez at 3rd base. RALLY KILLED! WHAT A WASTE OF A LEAD OFF DOUBLE!!!!

The Padres then tried to rally back in the 9th inning when Orlando Hudson led off the inning with a bloop single to setup the 3-4-5 hitters in the lineup. NONE of the guys were able to come up with the clutch hit and we took the loss.

Mat Latos made his return to the rotation and pitched SOLID, but it was not enough to get a victory. The team was not able to give him enough run support. He pitched 6 innings, struck out 7, but made mistakes on 2 pitches. He gave up a bomb on a hanging curve ball to Jonny Gomes in the 4th inning and then gave up a 2-run shot to Chris Heisy in the 5th inning. That’s all the Reds needed against our poor offense.

This lineup needs to make CLUTCH hits. Without any offense, this season will be a struggle.
