Friar Farm Report – Opening Day

Today was opening day for the minor leagues and here are some of the notable performances for our boys down on the farm.

Triple-A Tuscon Padres

Our possible fifth starter at the major league level, Wade LeBlanc, was roughed up in his start giving up 8 runs in 4 1/3 innings. He walked 2 and gave up 3 bombs in the game.

1B Anthony Rizzo batted clean-up and had 2 hits and drove in 4 runs in the game. Logan Forsythe drew four walks in the game and went deep twice to drive in 4. Aaron Cunningham had 2 hits which included a homerun. Everth Cabrera batted lead-off and had 4 hits and scored 3 runs.

Double-A San Antonio Missions

Brad Brach closed out the game to get his first save and struck out the side.

Lake Elsinore Storm

Eric Patterson is down at Lake Elsinore on a rehab assignment and is batting lead-off. He started the game 0-for-2 with a strikeout, but the game is still in progress.

Fort Wayne Tin Caps

Keyvious Sampson pitched 6 perfect innings and had 10 strikeouts to get the win.

You didn’t give the final score in that Tucson game, 18-14, or mention it was in Colorado Springs, where pitchers go to be humiliated. There should be a lot of hitting in the desert air of Tucson, and trips to Colorado Springs will prepare our AAA pitchers for Coors Field, but I wonder if some of them will arrive in San Diego too shell-shocked. Let’s hope a few innings at Petco will bring them around, and Jed realizes the offensive numbers he’ll see are, um, somewhat optimistic.

you are right.. i should have shared that the Tucson game was a hitting heaven!!!

Playing in AZ and then moving from there to PETCO will definitely mess with some kids.

we may be able to use some of those numbers to sell some of those minor leaguers at a higher price!
