After Black finished throwing batting practice, he had this to say about his ace. “He is a young man that continues to grow, not only as a player but as a person. I think he’ll be the first to tell you that a couple years ago, from where he was then to now, he’s made great strides. There’s a lot of scrutiny on him, but I think he’s up for the challenge of taking on the responsibility of being a top major league pitcher. We’ve seen great strides in his composure, his poise, his work ethic.”

A: (Aaron) Harang is a guy who when he’s healthy can give you a lot of innings and is a Cy Young contender. So far he’s on track and it wouldn’t surprise me if he had a great year. (Chad) Qualls when I watched him from the opposition side I’ve always had a lot of respect for how he pitched and a lot of admiration for his sinker. He’s got one of the best sinkers in the game. I think that’s a big addition for us also.

“I did a lot, and I mean a lot, of running in the winter to be physically ready to handle 100 — and hopefully — more games,” Hundley said. “I’m in the best shape of my life.”
