San Diego Padres young ace pitcher Mat Latos has struggled this Spring with his control and he has not been able to get a lot of innings in. Latos started tonight’s Spring outing against the Giants by giving up 4 quick runs in the first inning. He then battled through the second inning and finally settled down for his final 2 innings. He finally was able to get more than an innings work this Spring, completing 4 innings with 2 strikeouts and no walks.

Second baseman Orlando Hudson hit his first homerun as a Padre off of Tim Lincecum in the bottom of the 3rd inning. Will Venable reached base on 2 walks and added his first 2 stolen bases of the Spring.

Utility infielder Kevin Frandsen was finally able to show some offensive talent today. He came into the game hitless in his first 18 at bats and entered the game as a pinch runner for Hudson. He stole 2 bases on the day and got his first hit of the Spring.

The team left 11 men on base and were 1-21 with men in scoring position in the 6-4 loss to the Giants.
