Greg Zaun set to announce retirement today

San Diego Padres catcher Gregg Zaun is set to announce his retirement today.

The 39-year-old played 1232 games in the Major Leagues, posting a career batting average of .252, with 88 home runs and 446 RBI.

Rob Johnson is now the leading candidate to win the backup catching role behind Nick Hundley. Zaun has just started seeing some action in the Spring, but has been slowed with a shoulder injury and he missed significant time last year with shoulder troubles as well.
