The San Diego Padres will avoid arbitration with outfielder Ryan Ludwick by signing him to a $6.775 million contract. The Padres also avoided arbitration with their closer Heath Bell earlier in the day also.

The Padres have now signed Ludwick, Bell, and Bartlett to avoid arbitration and have pitchers Tim Stauffer and Mike Adams, and third basemean Chase Headley remaining as arbitration eligible.

Ludwick will enter the season as the starting left fielder and will be relied upon to supply some power into the lineup and drive in runs. With the trade of 1B Adrian Gonzalez, Ludwick will now move into the clean-up role.
