Jason Bartlett Trade Completed

The long awaited trade between the Padres and the Tampa Bay Rays has been completed. The Padres will get Jason Bartlett and a player to be named later for pitchers Adam Russell, Cesar Ramos and Brandon Gomes and infielder Cole Figueroa.

The Padres will enter the 2011 with a strong defense up the middle with Bartlett and newly acquired Orlando Hudson in hte middle infield and newly acquired Cameron Maybin patrolling center field.

Bartlett and Hudson will also strengthen the top of the batting order. Bartlett should be a good lead-off batter and Hudson is a seasoned number 2 hitter. The number 3 hitter could be the first baseman that we bring in or LF Ryan Ludwick.

Jed Hoyer is putting his stamp on the starting lineup in his 2nd season as the general manager. 1B (TBD), 2B Hudson, SS Bartlett, CF Maybin, and LF Ludwick are all projected starters that were brought in by Hoyer. Will Venable, Chase Headley, and Nick Hundley will round out the rest of the lineup, unless Jed has anymore moves lined up.

Hoyer still needs to bring in a starting 1B for the team and their are a lot of rumors swirling about Derrek Lee. Lee would fit nicely in the middle of the lineup and would add more defensive prowess to the team. The Padres already have added one gold glove player in Hudson and adding a gold glover in Derrek Lee would help the other players in the infield.
