Infielder Paul Bingham, the Padres’ 20th-round pick in the 2010 draft, has been promoted from the AZL Padres to the short-season Eugene Emeralds. Bingham, 22, hit .306/.400/.361 in the AZL, chipping in five steals as well.
He replaces Brian Guinn, demoted from Eugene to the AZL yesterday, on the Emeralds’ roster.
It makes plenty of sense to promote one of the AZL Padres’ best hitters in Bingham (although two triples in 20 games were his only extra-base hits, which is an issue) at the expense of one of Eugene’s worst hitters in Guinn. Hopefully the two infielders excel at their new stops.
