Tough Day for Padres

Tuesday wasn’t kind to the Padres.

The team lost 6-5 to the Nationals, as Ryan Zimmerman crushed two homers, Clayton Richard struggled with his command, and the team left eight runners on base.

6-5 to a decent team isn’t the worst outcome in the world, but the Padres then could only watch as the rival Dodgers and Giants won easily and the Rockies scored nine in the ninth to improbably beat the Cardinals. All three teams thus gained a game on the Padres.

The Dodgers are now three back, Colorado four, and San Francisco six, all well within striking distance. It’ll be interesting to see who buys and who sells in this division as the month rolls on.

Hey, at least Arizona lost! They’re still 17 1/2 back of the Padres.
