Sean Gallagher Traded to Pittsburgh

Recently DFA’d righthander Sean Gallagher has been shipped to the Pittsburgh Pirates for cash.

It’s tough to argue with getting something for nothing, and extra cash is certainly helpful as the team considers buying at the trade deadline. Still, it would have been nice to see the Padres be able to get a player for Gallagher, or be able to send him to the minors.

It was unlikely he would make it through waivers, though, since he’s an experienced arm with upside and youth (he’s just 24).

a really dissapointed trade for the padres, i liked sean stuff, great curveball and good fastball, but never located. hey just a fan quote, Andrew Brown ex-padre, the way that we adquired for josh barfield, has been traded two times for the same player:

Yup, Gallagher still has a lot of promise, he’s not yet 25, but his knee injury last year that limited his pitching time and lack of options made it impossible for him to get the work he needs to fully develop, at least not at the major league level with a contender. I don’t think the Pirates will give him the innings he needs either, but I hope he gets released in time to sign a minor league contract so he can get the 100-140 innings he needs as a starter to get back on track. He’ll never get untracked working out of the bullpen.

By the way – the “CAPTCHA” code is a pain in the buns. The characters/letters are so distorted that it’s impossible to tell if it’s a one, lower-case L, or even a horizontally squeezed seven, not to mention the letter “O” and zero. You might want to give the guys in charge of that code some feedback.
