Brach Nails Down the Save in Carolina/California League Showdown

Every year, during their All-Star breaks, the Carolina and California Leagues meet for an All-Star showdown game rather than playing contests within their respective leagues.

Just like Padres farmhands helped the Midwest League East defeat the West, several Padres contributed to the Cal League’s 4-3 victory.

The most notable was closer Brad Brach, who nailed down the save while allowing just a single. Brach struck out Nationals prospect Michael Burgess in his outing.

Anthony Bass also threw a one-hit, one-strikeout scoreless inning in the second frame, striking out Red Sox prospect Will Middlebrooks.

Blake Tekotte got the start in right field, and Dan Robertson and Cole Figueroa came in off the bench, but the trio combined to go 0-for-5 with a walk (by Robertson). However, Drew Cumberland came through with a single and a walk in his 1-for-3 night. Cumberland was one of just five Cal League batters to get a hit.
