The Padres waited until the eighth round of the 2010 draft to pick their first high school position player, taking high school outfielder Jose Dore, yet another Florida high schooler.

Dore shows a smooth lefthanded stroke. He’s a long-limbed oufielder with room to add strength to his 6’1″ frame.

Dore smashed 16 homers as a junior, which tied the Florida high school record. 16 HR in 79 AB is quite the feat, and it speaks to the leverage of Dore’s sweet swing.

Dore is committed to Florida State. RivalsHigh ranked him the 82nd best high schooler in the country, so he’s good value in the 8th round.

Dore has a great arm in right field and projects to be a solid defender there.

We’ll see how much it takes to sign the talented outfielder, but he looks like yet another pretty solid pick by the Padres.
