The Padres closed out the first half of their 2010 draft by selecting high school lefty Josue Montanez.
Montanez, 18, is a Puerto Rican lefty with a durable frame.
He’s got a high-80’s fastball that could settle in around 90 as he matures. His offspeed stuff, like many Latin American teens, is somewhat nascent, and he’ll need some mechanical tweaks as well.
He’s praised for being one of the better command pitchers in Puerto Rico, so that’s something.
At this point, you’re taking fliers, and I don’t see anything here to suggest Montanez isn’t a decent flyer.
