Sean Gallagher Returns, Adam Russell Shuttles Off Yet Again

Before yesterday’s game, the Padres recalled righty swingman Sean Gallagher from his rehab assignment with Triple-A Portland.

Gallagher made three starts in Triple-A, posting a 4.91 ERA in 11 innings. He struck out 12, walked four, and did not allow a homer.

In nine relief appearances with the Padres earlier this year, Gallagher threw 13 innings of 6.92 ERA ball, with a 12/13 K/BB ratio and three homers allowed.

It seems that his severe control issues improved on his rehab assignment–hopefully those were injury-related, and Gallagher can deliver on his considerable promise.

Russell returns to Portland for his fourth stint with the Beavers in less than two months. He posted a 3.72 ERA and 11/2 K/BB ratio in 9 2/3 innings across six appearances with San Diego. Russell threw a perfect inning in Saturday night’s game, his first in his new stint with Portland, striking out two batters.
