Ramos Down, Perdomo Up

Yeah, seven earned runs in one inning and a 21.21 ERA–doesn’t really cut it.

Cesar Ramos, who recently allowed seven runs (to the Mariners, of all teams) in one inning, inflating his ERA to 21.21, has been sent to Portland, and Luis Perdomo has been recalled to replace him.

I wouldn’t expect great things from Perdomo, who posted a 3.76 ERA and struck out just 16 batters in 26 1/3 innings with Portland. Of course, he was a passable pitcher for the Padres last year, but Perdomo was used in trash-time situations more than any other major league hurler in 2009.

Perdomo now is clearly the last man in the pecking order of the eight-man bullpen. A position player is expected to be recalled soon to bolster the bench, and Sean Gallagher is due back from the DL very soon anyway, so I’d be very surprised if Perdomo’s big league stay is over a week, barring further pitching injuries.
