Gallagher K’s 5 in 3 AAA Innings

Sean Gallagher’s second rehabiliation start at AAA Portland was strong. Yes, he allowed two earned runs on five hits in three innings, but he also struck out five and walked just one in the game.

That leaves Gallagher’s K/BB at 8/1 in seven innings there across two starts.

This looks more like the Gallagher that impressed this spring than the one who walked 13 batters in 13 innings for the Padres earlier this year.

This is certainly encouraging news, as the Padres could always use another good pitcher. If Gallagher can pitch well in the majors, he likely becomes the team’s best option to fill a rotation slot if someone goes down, which has the good benefit of keeping Tim Stauffer in the bullpen, where he excels.

The Padres already have incredible pitching (2.60 ERA). It looks like one of the few guys who’s bringing that down might stop doing so very soon.
